H7 bulb is one of the most common bulbs found in most German automotive cars like Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, BMW, and South Korean automotive cars like Hyundai and Kia.
If you own one of these vehicles, there’s a high chance your car uses H7 bulbs in the headlight system.
In this full installation guide, we’ll show you step-by-step how to replace your existing bulbs with H7 LEDs – making the process clear, simple, and suitable for car owners of all experience levels.
The H7 halogen bulb produces light by heating a tungsten filament. Its color temperature is usually around 3,200K, with a power of 55 watts and brightness of about 1,000 lumens. It can light up to about 50 meters and typically lasts around 500 hours.
Xenon bulbs (HID bulbs) create light by using high-voltage electricity to ignite gas inside the bulb. Their color temperature is around 4,200K. They use 35 watts of power and offer much higher brightness — between 2,500 and 3,200 lumens. The light can reach up to 100 meters, and the bulbs can last over 3,000 hours.
Compared to halogen and HID bulbs, H7 LED bulbs are a much better choice. They are brighter, use less energy, and last much longer. Unlike HID (xenon) bulbs, LEDs stay strong for years without needing replacement.
LEDs use the vehicle’s electrical energy to power solid-state light sources, making them extremely durable and low-maintenance – you could use LED bulbs for decades without worrying about them wearing out.

The H7 bulb is used in many different vehicles, but the mounting method can vary slightly. For most German and South Korean cars, you usually need a special adapter to secure the H7 bulb into the headlight housing. The H7 bulb adapter looks like this:
Because different vehicles use different types of H7 bulb adapters for halogen bulbs, the installation process for H7 LED bulbs can vary greatly from one car to another.
Before you start, if you’re not sure whether your vehicle uses an H7 socket or a different type like H4, H11, or 9005, check out our guide: H4, H7, H11, 9005 | How to Identify Headlight Bulb Socket?.
H7 bulb adapters are commonly required in models from Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Hyundai, and Kia. To help you understand better, we’ve broken down the H7 installation process into three main socket types you may encounter.
Step 1:
Remove the original H7 bulb from the headlight housing.
Step 2:
Plug the new LED H7 bulb into the factory H7 power socket.
Step 3:
Align the LED H7 bulb correctly with the housing and lock it into place.
Step 4:
Secure the LED bulb’s base collar into the housing using the spring clip. Once it’s locked in place, insert the LED H7 bulb back into the collar and complete the installation.
